Commonplayground is a project that upholds a typical <<street - culture>> artistic expression: graffiti. Street culture turns the surrounding space into working support for artists, who use it to „a re-estheticise” the urban landscape.
Likewise Duchamp’s or Manzoni’s concept of <<ready-made>>, the buildings or spaces they paint become museums on their own, without being institutionalized though destined for the public at large. The basic idea of graffiti refers to the huge opportunity each citizen has in using the public space which belongs to him, whose routine is broken by these artworks inserted in the urban area.
As the name states, the project is about the common public space, everybody’s <<playground>> which we can make better, even in an ephemeral way, with artworks that may remain there or disappear. More than the „revitalizing” the interior rooms of the National Dance Centre, the artists have also created a mobile piece: a trolley bus, painted in the RATB Vatra Luminoasa depot, which has circulated around Bucharest on the 8th of august 2007.
The participating artists are RIPO (U.S.A), SINBOY (U.K./Spain) and OBES (Belgium). The three young artists, RIPO, SINBOY and OBES are already well-known international names, invited to participate in various projects, exhibitions and other artistic manifestations. Their work has been published in studies about street art and graffiti. Coming from different spaces, two continents, they share the same kind of art but they each have different styles.
The exhibition is opened until the 31st of august 2007.
