Street Art/Graffiti Exhibit in Amsterdam

Postby misslettuce » May 6th, 2006, 7:39 pm

“The streets are my canvas…” – Graffiti/Street Art exhibition

Location: OT301, Overtoom 301, Amsterdam

Date: 24/25/26 of June 2006

Open Call for all graffiti/”street art” artists to send their work.

The Streets Are Our Canvas

Recorded history began as the scribbling on the wall. Graphic expression, as the basis of the process of recorded information, began on the wall. On the wall, so that the eye of all could see.
Modern-day wall expression has been able to reclaim the lost purpose of public, communal visual communication. It can be found in every city, in every corner of the world. The Streets Are Our Canvas aims to reflect on such an ephemeral, dynamic and self-imposing free-movement as the art-in-the-street scene is. Graffiti, stencils, stickers, paste-ups, paintings, etchings, canvases…anything goes, anywhere, anytime. Getting up is the word. It has been for over thirty years. So show us what you’ve been up to.

Works should be done in any object the artists find in the streets, in whatever shape or size. Doesn't matter if it is a stolen object or not...(although we don’t support such action). Subject is anything you want to express in any type of materials you can lay your hands on.

Lazy "artists" can also send their canvas’. And/or posters/stickers (no size restrictions) for a Peel "n" Stick wall section....

At the exhibit there will be space for people who want to paint graffiti/stencils, put up posters/stickers. If you are from Holland or are travelling around Europe and want to join the action and paint live let us know.

Unfortunately, the organization will not be able to pay absolutely anyone for absolutely anything you might send in. But we will respect all works and give them equal exposure. Please contact us if you want your works to be returned, or if you have any special needs we can help you out with.

The streets are our canvas fotolog is on.

Check it for more detailed info and list of participants!

http://www.fotolog.com/thestreetsareour

My knowledge of dutch is a bit limited to reply to your posts...
So, i prefer to leave you with a rough translation in german, of what is this exhibit about:

Hello T.,

"Works should be done in any object the artists find in the streets, in whatever shape or size. Doesn't matter if it is a stolen object or not...(although we don’t support such action). Subject is anything you want to express in any type of materials you can lay your hands on."

I understand that for a lot of people (maybe for you too, i dunno) specially those living in far away countries is quite expensive to send an object they find in the streets, that's why there is also a wall for stickers and posters.

So you can send them in aswell.

And, thank you for your interest. And, to all that showed any (good/bad) interest in the exhibition. It means that we are doing something to touch your/their hearts.

On the same day and sharing the space of the building, other events will take place, check this links to know more of what's going on:

http://www.squat.net/overtoom301
http://www.casa.manifestor.org

Also the people from powervspower recs will organize two parties on the 23/24 of June in the same house with:

DJ Paul25
DJ Buster (RVH)
DJ Koldun
VJ Teo

More dj's will be announced!

More updates soon enough!

The wall will be white if you are talking about canvas. Posters and stickers will be glued in diferent background colors and to diferent materials.

Update!

Read this if you want to come over:

At the expo there will be some artists painting and pasting up live. I cannot accept more people to paint/paste up live because all the space is full and limited. Aswell i want to give some nice amount of space to the artists who showed interest in doing so untill this day.
